November 2009 - Ag Secretary Helps Combat Childhood Obesity, Plus Positive News on Lactose Intolerance

In partnership with the National Football League, United States Department of Agriculture and the nation’s dairy farmers, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will help promote good nutrition and fitness in schools nationwide. In addition, a recent study found the prevalence of lactose intolerance in European Americans, Hispanic Americans and African Americans to be far lower than previously projected.

SUDIA has created a Health Professional Advisory Board enlisting the support of doctors as third party experts to speak about dairy and nutrient-rich foods.

August 2009- World School Milk Day and NFL Joins Forces to Promote Dairy

This year marks the ninth year of World School Milk Day and SUDIA is working to promote the event across the Southeast with school promotions and dairy farmer involvement.

The NFL has joined forces with SUDIA to promote dairy foods to children and adults. SUDIA has partnerships with four teams in the Southeast and a great line-up of promotions ready to get underway this fall.

The dairy industry has committed to a 25 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2020. The effort will help the industry meet growing consumer demand for environmentally friendly products. In addition, dairy farmers are speaking out to doctors and dietitians to educate them on the nutritional benefits of dairy foods.

Dairy farmers are reaching out in new ways to speak with health professionals about the nutritional benefits of dairy foods. Farmers have attended meetings with staff and increased the awareness of the value of dairy in well-balanced diets.

June 2009 - NFL Provides Opportunity for Farmer Involvement and Social Media Initiatives

SUDIA's partnership with the NFL now provides farmers with the opportunity to speak to school children and attend events with NFL players. SUDIA also is working with DMI to develop a social media initiative that will allow farmers to build relationships directly with consumers.

Social media is the newest method of internet communication and the dairy industry is becoming involved. Building a strong presence for dairy helps maintain the public confidence in dairy foods.
