Myers Family Farm
Walkup Holsteins and the prefix, Walkup, were registered with the Holstein Association USA, Inc. in 1927. Seven generations have lived on the farm, and the Myers family has celebrated 130 years of farming in Harrisonburg, Va.
Dan Myers has milked for more than 30 years, and in 2002 Walkup Holsteins, LLC was formed to include his wife, Charlotte, his son and daughter-in-law, D.J. and Kimberly Myers, and his son-in-law and daughter, Donald and Teresa Callender. The Myers are currently milking 130 Holsteins and farm approximately 325 acres owned and leased.
Walkup Holsteins is located in the city limit, and they work closely with the Natural Resources Conservation Service to ensure they are protecting the environment. Over the past seven years, they have updated their milking parlor, machine shed and bed pack barn and began an expansion project designing and building a dry cow and bred heifer barn. The barn was planned and built with the cooperation of state and federal agricultural agencies to serve agriculture and protect the environment and public.
The Myers family received the 2006 Harrisonburg Rockingham Chamber of Commerce "Farm Family Stewardship Award." They strive to educate their community by taking cows to state fairs, offering farm tours and sharing their family farming tradition with the community.
Dan says, "Walkup Holsteins is more than a business, it's a way of life, about cows, and about family."
