Programs
Schools:
Fuel Up To Play 60
This youth-led program empowers students to take healthy actions in their schools to help combat childhood obesity.
The Southeast Dairy Association supports the program with educational materials, incentives, awards and grants to
help sustain an increase in the availability of nutrient-rich foods and improved student awareness of healthy lifestyles.
The Southeast Dairy Association partners with four National Football League teams - the Carolina Panthers, Tennessee
Titans, New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons - to improve the nutrition and physical activity of students.
New Look of School Milk
Cardboard boxes of milk date back to the early 1900's. Isn't it time for a change? Today's students are savvy
consumers - they want a modern look and feel to the foods they eat, including milk. Schools that provide milk in
resealable plastic bottles have seen dramatic increases in their milk sales. SUDIA works with schools to help make
this conversion and to improve students' nutrition by helping them get the daily calcium their bodies need.
Expanding Breakfast
Students who eat a nutritious breakfast are likely to improve performance in the classroom and have reduced behavioral
problems, but breakfast at school doesn't have to be eaten in the cafeteria. It can be served in the classroom, from
kiosks in the hallways or after first period. The Expanding Breakfast program provides innovative solutions to the
breakfast dilemma faced by many schools - how to get students to eat the most important meal of the day. The Southeast
Dairy Association works with nutrition professionals, principals and teachers to find the best solution for each school
and to increase participation in school breakfast.
Recycling
Each ton of plastic bottles diverted from landfills can save the equivalent of 3.8 barrels of oil. The Southeast Dairy
Association works with districts using plastic milk bottles to develop recycling solutions that help teach students
responsible practices, while positively impacting the environment.
Health Professionals:
The National Dairy Council has been providing science-based nutrition education since 1935. As a regional arm of the National
Dairy Council, the Southeast Dairy Association continues to educate nutritionists, health professionals and others on
emerging science regarding the health benefits of milk and other dairy foods.
Communications:
The Southeast Dairy Association has more than a dozen trained media communicators on-staff, including registered dietitians
and school and dairy industry specialists, who often can be seen on local television or radio shows educating consumers on
current nutritional information and trends. In addition, the Southeast Dairy Association has trained dairy farmer spokespeople
who can present at local meetings, and participate in interviews to help inform the community about dairy farming practices
and environmental stewardship.
