Expanding Breakfast
Studies have shown that students who eat a nutritious breakfast are likely to improve performance in the classroom and have reduced behavioral problems. Breakfast also helps to combat childhood obesity and encourages healthy eating. In fact, children who don't eat breakfast miss 25 percent of their daily nutrition.
The key to increasing breakfast consumption is to make the morning meal more convenient with Breakfast in the Classroom, Grab and Go Breakfast or Breakfast After First Period.
Breakfast in the Classroom is the most popular Expanding Breakfast program, with participation levels at 95 percent of enrollment. Grab and Go Breakfast provides meals as children get off the bus, or places meal carts in strategic locations. Breakfast After First Period provides a health snack after the day starts.
