New Look of School Milk
Milk, like other nutrient-rich foods, should be an important part of your school district's wellness policy.
Many students depend on school meals for nearly their entire daily intake of calcium, and other essential nutrients.
In fact, up to 50 percent of total daily caloric intake is consumed at school, making it the ideal setting for teaching
healthy eating. For more information on the role schools can play in student nutrition, click here.
With nine essential vitamins and minerals, milk is an important component of any school meal. The New Look of School
Milk program features ice-cold milk served in a variety of flavors in kid-friendly, recyclable plastic bottles on the meal
line. The program has been shown to increase milk sales and consumption, and in many schools even increase meal program
participation. Since 2002, many school districts have switched to the New Look of School Milk to meet nutritional goals,
as well as the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. There are now more than 10,000 schools across the country
(more than 2,700 in the Southeast) serving newly packaged flavored milk to more than six million students.
