Wilson Middle School Celebrates World School Milk Day
Augusta County, Va.—On September 30 members from the local dairy community will team with Wilson Middle School (WMS) to celebrate the ninth annual World School Milk Day (WSMD).
WSMD, celebrated by more than 40 countries, provides schools with an opportunity to recognize local dairy farmers while educating children about the importance of dairy foods.
To celebrate this global event, Virginia dairy farmer spokespersons Dan Myers and Dan Holsinger will pass out pencils, stickers and bookmarks to milk drinkers during lunch. Students will also have an opportunity to take milk mustache photos prior to lunch.
“Participation in WSMD provides schools with a great opportunity to engage children and teach them about the importance of drinking milk for strong bones and teeth,” said Myers.
To show appreciation to Southeast dairy farmers, SUDIA staff is working with top dairy producing counties in each state throughout the SUDIA region. This effort will honor local dairy farm families and the nutritious dairy foods they produce.
“I’m excited to be a part of such an important celebration,” said Holsinger. “World School Milk Day is a great way for dairy farmers like myself, to reach out to students and teach them about farming and dairy foods.”
