Putnam County Art Center Celebrates World School Milk Day
Putnam County, Ga.—On September 30 from 8:30 a.m. to noon the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association (SUDIA) will team with The Plaza Art Center to celebrate the ninth annual World School Milk Day (WSMD).
WSMD, celebrated by more than 40 countries, provides schools with an opportunity to recognize local dairy farmers while educating children about the importance of dairy foods.
To celebrate this global event, The Plaza Art Center has invited Putnam County Primary School to visit the museum’s farming exhibit. Formerly a Putnam County elementary school, this new museum features farming from across the country including Putnam County. Students who visit the exhibit will receive WSMD stickers and take milk mustache photos. Students will also view an educational DVD, “Milk on the Mooove,” which teaches children about dairy foods from farm to table.
Local dairy farmer and ADA of Georgia Board President, Emory Young will also be attending the event to answer students’ questions about dairy and to pass out milk.
“Participation in WSMD provides schools with a great opportunity to engage children and teach them about the importance of drinking milk for strong bones and teeth,” said Young.
To show appreciation to Southeast dairy farmers, SUDIA staff is working with top dairy producing counties in each state throughout the SUDIA region. This effort will honor local dairy farm families and the nutritious dairy foods they produce.
“We are excited about this exhibit and the opportunity to celebrate WSMD with the dairy farmers,” said Molly Szymanski, SUDIA’s assistant manager of child nutrition. “This provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about agriculture and dairy foods.”
