NASHVILLE, Tenn. – December 9, 2008 – Ben Muha, a third grade student at Waverly Elementary in Humphreys County, is the winner of an art contest held by the Southeast Dairy Association in partnership with the Tennessee Titans and Wendy’s restaurant. Muha will receive tickets and sideline passes to the December 7 Titans game against the Cleveland Browns and an early 2009 fitness assembly for his entire school with Kyle Vanden Bosch. His winning design featured the slogan “Achieve Your Dreams With Healthy Choices” and showcased a road map of healthy options such as playing football, roller skating and dairy foods, as well as the “dead ends” of unhealthy choices. It will be used as a Wendy’s in-restaurant tray liner at 76 participating locations throughout Nashville and Bowling Green in early 2009.

Students submitted more than 235 imaginative pictures during the contest, which ran from October 20 to November 9. One winner from each elementary grade received an autographed piece of Titans memorabilia, and all entrants received a free Wendy’s Kid’s Meal™ with healthy options, including white or chocolate milk for 8 grams of protein and 40 percent of daily calcium or mandarin oranges for 40 percent of the recommended Vitamin C intake. Finalists in each grade level were: kindergarten – Denerra Waters from Jones Paideia Magnet Elementary, Nashville, Tenn.; first grade – Yanesi Caraballo from Dan Mills Elementary, Nashville, Tenn.; second grade – Wilson Ragan from Discovery School, Dickson, Tenn.; fourth grade: Jason Stampfly from Culleoka Unit School, Culleoka, Tenn.; and fifth grade – Jack Story from Discovery School, Dickson, Tenn.

“The contest entries illustrated that students are getting the message that healthy food choices and physical activity are important factors for healthy bodies,” said Tracy Noerper – registered dietitian with the Southeast Dairy Association. “These children are at a critical age in bone development, and we hope the contest helped to encourage children to adopt healthy eating habits for life.”

The Southeast Dairy Association and Titans partnership is part of a national program created to reach 18 million students in more than 40,000 schools nationwide with health and nutrition education. The program combines the powerful nutrition expertise of the Southeast Dairy Association and the fitness expertise of the NFL to give youth the tools and resources needed to change their personal health and school environment.
