CHARLOTTE, NC – November 18, 2008 – Paul Gale, age 10 of Charlotte, NC, is the winner of the 3-A-Day™ of Dairy, Harris Teeter and Carolina Panthers Junior Broadcaster contest. He competed on November 15 in front of Mick Mixon, radio voice of the Panthers and Jim Szoke, Panthers color commentator, and won the opportunity to become an announcer at the November 16 Carolina Panthers vs. Detroit Lions game. He recorded a special game day message about healthy lifestyles that was played on the Panthervision screen during the game.

Gale, a fifth grade student at Our Lady Of Assumption, along with the other randomly-selected contestants, read a script in front of the judges, and was then treated to a day of fun at the stadium, where he got a behind the scenes tour and a gift bag including game tickets, signed Panthers memorabilia and more.

“The south is the ‘Biggest Belt’ and home to nine of the top 10 states with the highest rates of obesity, diabetes, hypertension and physical inactivity,” said Dottie Ryan, registered dietitian with the Southeast Dairy Association. “Through this partnership with the Panthers and Harris Teeter, we’re encouraging youth to Fuel Up for better health by choosing nutritious foods like low-fat and fat-free dairy, whole grains, fruits and veggies; and getting 60 minutes of physical activity every day.”

The Junior Broadcaster contest is a partnership initiative between the Southeast Dairy Association, Carolina Panthers and Harris Teeter, and is part of a national program created to reach 18 million students in more than 40,000 schools nationwide with health, nutrition and fitness education. By encouraging students to engage in 30 to 60 minutes of physical activity and consume three servings of dairy a day, the partnership is helping kids realize a brighter future with stronger bones and better bodies.
